Activate Learning Named SIIA Education Technology CODiE Award Finalist for Best Science Instructional Solution

IQWST Interactive Digital Edition earns prestigious industry recognition

Greenwich, CT (June 13, 2017) Activate Learning, Leaders in K-8 NGSS-Aligned Science Curriculum, today announced that IQWST Interactive Digital Edition was named a 2017 SIIA CODiE Award finalist in the Best Science Instructional Solution category. Finalists represent applications, products and services from developers of educational software, digital content, online learning services and related technologies across the PreK-20 sector.

IQWST IDE (Interactive Digital Edition) is a breakthrough digital product designed to support in-class discussion and scientific discovery. Rather than replace collaborative engagement with screen time, IQWST IDE supports classroom interaction with rich, layered tools that help teachers foster rigorous in-class discussion and provide strategic feedback as students record their developing understandings throughout the investigative process. IQWST IDE is the first Interactive, Digital Science Curriculum & Notebook, allowing students to learn via audio, video, simulations, and writing and drawing tools that are integral to science learning. IQWST (Investigating and Questioning our World through Science and Technology) is a grade 6-8 science curriculum in which experiencing phenomena, investigating student’s original questions, and reading, writing, talking about, modeling and explaining phenomena are central to every lesson. With IQWST IDE, teachers access the materials they need, when they need them, and student work is always at their fingertips. Research-based standards make clear that developing deep understanding of STEM requires students to actively engage in scientific practices such as organizing and analyzing data, modeling processes, predicting outcomes, and explaining and arguing from evidence. IQWST IDE enables students to do this easily and gives teachers the tools to guide them and assess their growth.

According to Activate Learning’s Chief Product Officer, David Robertshaw, “IQWST IDE is unique in its focus on classroom discourse and support for teachers. Students are using the technology to enhance their hands-on learning and peer-to-peer interactions. They’re gathering data, modeling phenomena, and writing and discussing their reasoning. Nothing out there supports 3 dimensional learning and the new science standards better, and we’re extremely proud to be a CODiE finalist.”

“I am impressed by the level of innovation and creativity demonstrated by the 2017 CODiE award finalists. These products are opening doors for learners of all ages by combining new technologies with research about how people learn in order to respond to student and educator needs.” said Bridget Foster, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN), a division of SIIA.

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the premier awards for the software and information industries, and have been recognizing product excellence for over 30 years. The awards offer 93 categories that are organized by industry focus of education technology and business technology. IQWST IDE (Interactive Digital Edition) was honored as one of 160 finalists across the 34 education technology categories.

The SIIA CODiE Awards are the industry's only peer-reviewed awards program. Educators and administrators serve as judges and conduct the first-round review of all education nominees. Their scores determine the SIIA CODiE Award finalists, and SIIA members then vote on the finalist products. The scores from both rounds are tabulated to select the winners. Winners will be announced during a CODiE Award Winner Ceremony in San Francisco on July 26 at the Education Impact Symposium, hosted by the Education Technology Industry Network (ETIN), a division of SIIA.
